Old Boys/Girls Sports Day

Saturday 12th October

We warmly invite all former sportsmen and women to the Selwyn College Old Boys and Girls Event on Saturday 12th October. We will be holding matches between alumni and current students in Football, Rugby, Hockey, Netball and Lacrosse. Badminton and Women’s football may also be added to the timetable.

It would be wonderful to see you there, and we hope this is a great chance to reunite with old friends, meet some current sportsmen and women of Selwyn, and dust off those old trainers and boots.

The plan for the day, and the respective alumni captains, will be as follows:

Football (Men’s) – 11.30am at Barton Road – James Massey (jamescmassey10@gmail.com)
Rugby (Men’s) – 1.15pm at Barton Road – Ollie Coombe-Tennant (ocoombetennant@me.com)
Lacrosse – 2.00pm at Barton Road – no Alumni Captain as of yet – to play, email Carla Hill (ceh91@cam.ac.uk )
Netball (Women’s and Mixed) – 3.00pm at Barton Road –Laurence Moscrop (Laurence.d.moscrop@gmail.com )
Hockey (Mixed) – 4.00pm at St Catharine’s College Pitch – Elliot Wilde (wilde.elliotj@gmail.com)
Badminton (Mixed) – will play if numbers are high enough – email Carla Hill (ceh91@cam.ac.uk )

These sports are limited by current Selwyn sports teams, if you would like to organise an alumni match in other sports (Tennis, Women’s Football etc.) please contact Aidan Rigby and Carla Hill (acgr2@cam.ac.uk & ceh91@cam.ac.uk) who will help organise this.

After the sporting endeavours have finished, we will conclude the day with a Black Tie dinner in Selwyn. We will meet in the bar from 6.00pm, and the New SCR from 7.00pm for a Prosecco reception, with dinner and wine served in Selwyn Hall at 7.30pm. Before the dinner a photographer will be available to take photos. The cost of the dinner is £37 per person.

Any profits from the event will go directly to the Selwyn Sports Bursary Scheme, which helps both individual and team sports in Selwyn, and thus we invite all returning alumni to use this opportunity to make a donation if they wish. We hope the dinner will be an enjoyable chance to hear about the day’s events and the progress of Selwyn College sport.

Spaces for the dinner are limited and strictly on a ‘first come, first served’ basis, so please send RSVPs with dietary requirements, or any requests for further information about the day, to both your alumni sports captain and Aidan Rigby (acgr2@cam.ac.uk). Once your place has been confirmed, payment can be made in one of two ways:

 - Ideally, you can pay by bank transfer directly to the ‘Selwyn College Hermes Club’ (Account Number: 40815306 and Sort Code: 20-17-19).
 - Alternatively, payment can be made by cheque, for at least £37 per person, payable to ‘The Selwyn College Hermes Club’ and sent to ‘A. C. G. Rigby, Selwyn College, Cambridge CB3 9DQ’.

The deadline for payment will strictly be Wednesday 2nd October.

As well as active sportsmen and women, we would like to invite back all those who won’t be taking part in matches. If you would just like to come and support, revisit Selwyn, and catch up with old and current students during the day and at the dinner, please contact acgr2@cam.ac.uk.

Further information and updates will be available on the Selwyn College Old Boys/Girls Network Facebook page (please ‘like’ the page to receive updates!). This will help us to continue to build a strong alumni network for the future. Please share with your old friends and help spread the event by word of mouth.

Finally, if you have any stories, photos or other memorabilia from your sporting days at Selwyn, please get in touch and share with us. We would be delighted if you could join us for what is sure to be a very special day. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,
Aidan Rigby                                      Carla Hill
