Supporting Sport

Selwyn has a proud sporting tradition, dating back to its early years.  Members of the College have gone on to excel in national teams at their chosen sports; there are even medal-winning Olympians in our midst!

Sport provides an important part of the university experience for many students and Selwyn provides financial support for its sportsmen and women through a variety of different funds, so that none are hindered from participating and competing.

Vickerstaff Sports Bursary Scheme

The Vickerstaff Sports Bursary Scheme looks to improve the participation and standard of sport at Selwyn.  Both men's and women's sport is supported at team and individual level.  Grants are used to support a wide range of sport-related activities, which can prove costly to individuals hindering their participation.  Bursaries have been given for activities including travel, training, coaching and purchase of kit.

There are a number of other sports funds, some tailored to specific sports, which support the sporting efforts of athletes at Selwyn, such as the Friends of Selwyn College Boat Club (formerly the Henley Fund).

Last year, nearly £9,000 was given to Selwyn's sportsmen and women from our sports funds thanks to the generosity of many alumni.  It has made a huge difference to the level of support we are able to give our students.
